Getting Started

How to measure yourself for an agency

The measurements agencies ask for, and how to take them accurately at home.

In short: Agencies ask for your height, bust or chest, waist, hips and shoe size. Measure with a soft tape, in fitted clothes or underwear, and keep the numbers current.

01

What you need

A soft tape measure, a wall, and someone to help if you can. Wear fitted clothes or underwear so the numbers are accurate.

02

Height

Stand barefoot against a wall, heels together, looking straight ahead. Have someone mark the top of your head with something flat, then measure from the floor to the mark.

03

Bust or chest

Measure around the fullest part, keeping the tape level all the way round. Snug, not tight.

04

Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above your belly button. Breathe normally and don't pull in.

05

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, with your feet together.

06

Shoe size, and keeping it current

Note your UK shoe size. Measure again every few months, or whenever anything changes, and update your digitals at the same time.

A Few Questions

Common questions

Round to the nearest half inch or centimetre, and never in your favour. Agencies and clients plan around these numbers.
UK agencies often use both. Give whichever the agency asks for, and keep a note of both.
